Nothing lasts forever, but when it comes to premium shade, Frankford promises that its durable, long-lasting outdoor patio umbrellas will last season after season for years to come.
However, it is helpful to know about our durable features and how to care for our products in tough weather conditions—especially in coastal and high-wind environments.
Frankford Luxury is Intelligent Luxury
When purchasing a Frankford umbrella, you are investing in what we like to call intelligent luxury. This isn’t dictated by the price tag. It’s decided in the details: the choice and grade of fabric, the design-forward mechanics, the fine craftsmanship, and the care behind the scenes from our sales reps.
All of this adds up to true, intelligent luxury. By prioritizing materials and construction methods that last, Frankford supplies the perfect frames for beautiful, durable canopies.
Frankford is where intelligent luxury meets commercial-grade performance. It is where you feel confident enough to enjoy shade without a shadow of a doubt.
When the wind blows…
Windy conditions are part of coastal life and can be sudden and extreme in some instances, like Florida weather. Frankford umbrellas are built to withstand the strong, windy days these areas must endure.
In the event of high winds or sudden extreme weather conditions:
- Close all umbrellas and immediately secure them in a safe place. Umbrellas should never be left unattended in the open position.
- Close umbrellas when not in use or when sustained winds exceed 25 mph. While our umbrellas have been tested successfully in winds up to 40-50 mph, they will incur less damage when closed.
- Use the wind ratings marked on every Frankford umbrella as a guide to the relative strength of the umbrellas, tested at their optimal positions.
- Umbrellas with any degree of tilt should not follow the wind ratings, nor should umbrellas be used on an elevated patio or rooftop setting.
- Increase the minimum suggested base weights by double or triple for each umbrella to ensure stability.
- Order replacement parts for our shade products to service the umbrellas and keep them in perfect working condition.

Wind resistant patio umbrellas
Frankford offers several wind-resistant patio umbrellas in both cantilever and market styles. For example, the Eclipse® Cantilever is built to handle the elements — engineered for sustained winds up to 30 mph, with an optional Wind Stabilizer Kit that pushes that rating to 35 mph. The Giant Greenwich market-style umbrella is built to withstand sustained winds of up to 30 mph.

Keep it Clean
At Frankford, our products are well known for their durability, but casual care and cleaning will set up your umbrella for lasting success. Here are some tips for general upkeep of your shade.
- Brush off dust and dirt with a soft brush. NEVER use stiff brushes because this can damage the fabric finish.
- Spray the umbrella with clean water. If a hose is used, avoid high pressure.
- Prepare a solution of solvent-free soap in warm water and apply it to the fabric and stitching.
- Scrub with a soft brush, allowing the solution to penetrate the fabric.
- Rinse with water to remove all traces of soap.
- Let the canopy air dry and don’t close the umbrella until the canvas is completely dry.
Fabric Care

Our marine-grade acrylic fabric is treated with the Infinity Process coating. This coating is a high-tech finish that provides long-lasting protection against mold and mildew, excellent water- and oil repellency, and sun protection.
However, general dust and dirt, pollution, and organic materials can affect this protection, shortening the life of the fabric. To preserve the look of your umbrella, clean the canvas monthly with water from a low-pressure hose. Afterward, it is important to let it dry completely before rolling or storing your umbrella.
Vinyl Material Care
The most effective way to maintain Frankford’s heavy-gauge vinyl is the same way you clean the fabric: once a month with water using a low-pressure hose to prevent the accumulation of dirt, dust, pollution, or foreign organic materials.
For more embedded stains, brush away loose dirt with a soft brush, rinse the vinyl with a low-pressure hose, and use a vinyl cleaner, sponge, and lukewarm water to scrub away stubborn stains. Dish detergent is not recommended because it can dry out the vinyl and accelerate aging.

Lasting Shade
Choosing a commercial-grade umbrella means you are investing in premium, durable shade solutions that look as good as they perform. With proper care, your umbrella will last season after season, for all to enjoy.
